Sharlene

Sharlene is delighted to be part of the Ocean Tree Yoga Studio family and we are so grateful to have her in studio as a Kids Yoga Teacher. Combining her extensive teaching experience with a passion for yoga and mindfulness, she is dedicated to supporting children in developing confidence, resilience, and self-awareness.

As a mother of two and a qualified Primary School Teacher holding a Bachelor of Education, Sharlene brings over 27 years of classroom teaching experience to her role. Her commitment to nurturing and educating young people led her to further her studies in children's wellbeing through the completion of Level 1 and Level 2 Kids Yoga Teacher Training with the Yoga Kids Training Academy.

Sharlene's own yoga journey began at Ocean Tree Yoga Studio, where she discovered the positive impact that yoga and mindful movement can have on both physical and emotional wellbeing. Through her regular practice, she has experienced firsthand how yoga can help create balance, build confidence, and support people in navigating the challenges of everyday life.

Passionate about helping children thrive both inside and outside the classroom, Sharlene recognises the valuable role that yoga and mindfulness can play in supporting children's emotional regulation, focus, self-esteem, and overall wellbeing. Her classes provide a fun, engaging, and supportive environment where children can explore movement, breathing techniques, relaxation, and mindfulness practices.

In addition to teaching regular kids yoga classes, Sharlene plays an integral role in helping to create and facilitate Ocean Tree's much-loved Kids Yoga Day Retreats, providing children with enriching experiences that encourage connection, creativity, confidence, and wellbeing.

Sharlene looks forward to welcoming children onto the mat and sharing the many benefits of yoga in a nurturing and encouraging space.

Ann

In January 2000, I began the new millennium with a 10-day silent meditation retreat; it was a profound experience. I hadn't known it was possible to quiet the constant chattering of my mind!

Meditation is all pervasive – it touches every aspect of our being: mentally, emotionally, physically, spiritually. It offers a positive, noticeable improvement to our well-being.

I've lived with a chronic condition since I was 18. Initially, I readily gave away my power to others, in search of attaining better health. I no longer think someone else can make my life easier – I know this responsibility resides solely with me. For me, practising meditation is a pathway to accept and manage my most challenging moments both internally and externally.

Meditation is a skill like any other resourceful skill - it takes dedication and consistent practice before the benefits are fully experienced. Even a few minutes a day will help, and with weekly group practice we're offered the additional support and encouragement of a like-minded sangha.

When we sit down to meditate, we purposely disconnect from the plugged-in chaos and noise of contemporary life. It's a refuge to nourish our inner being; to strengthen our resilience ... a safe space that genuinely supports our true nature and well-being.
We cultivate positive energy in a compassionate environment at Sunday morning meditation practice; all levels of experience are welcome.

My teaching method tends to lean towards a more anatomy-based approach as I like to help students understand how to get the most out of the poses

I’ve been practising yoga for the past 25 years - it’s how I now take care of myself - mind and body. I came to the practice in a time of high stress and after many years of high impact sport. I was looking for something that would settle my mind whilst moving my body in a more caring way.

Over the years yoga has granted me many gifts. I’ve found the cultivation of a mindfulness practice imbedded in movement allows me to check in with myself whilst taking time out from a busy world. It always leaves me in a more settled state.

In 2023 I decided to take my practice further and completed Vinyasa and Nidra yoga teacher training with Human Kind Studios, Adelaide and following on from that I completed a Yin yoga teacher certification with The Yin Space in the same year.

My teaching method tends to lean towards a more anatomy-based approach as I like to help students understand how to get the most out of the poses and the practice whilst always keeping the vibe light.
I hope you’ll join me on the mat sometime.

Cassy

I have been part of the Ocean Tree Yoga community for 9 years and after finding yoga as a way to slow down and reconnect, I fell in love with the balance of movement, mindfulness and community it creates.

With my background in Allied Health, I am passionate about keeping our bodies strong through movement, and looking after our mental wellbeing.

After experiencing first hand the benefits of yoga, I was inspired to dig a little deeper and learn more, so this year I completed my yoga teacher training with the Mindful Yoga School.
I feel excited and extremely grateful to join the Ocean Tree Yoga family as a teacher, as well as a student.

My classes focus on building strength and flexibility, while encouraging a sense of ease and connection. I believe Yoga offers more than just physical benefits- it’s a practice that nurtures clarity, compassion and balance in both body and mind. I encourage students to listen to their bodies, explore what feels good and enjoy the process rather than striving for perfection.

Whether your new to yoga or deepening your journey, I’m here to support you in connecting with your body, calming your mind and finding balance on and off the mat.

Johanne

Becoming a yoga instructor was my destiny well before I realised it was going to be part of my life’s journey. So much of my life has been stepping stones towards that destination and I am so glad that I experienced those crucial learning steps, including 15 years as a yogi. Studying Metaphysics, Reiki, spiritual healing and qualifying as a counsellor, I gained wide
experience and understanding of physical, emotional and spiritual health.

When I began training as a yoga instructor I already knew of the incredible multi-factorial benefits yoga provides, especially through my own personal experience suffering from anxiety. For me, as a yoga participant, I embraced Vinyasa flow believing it would be the answer to
better manage bouts of anxiety, and although beneficial, my best path was through Hatha, somatic gentle yoga flow and Yin - the art of surrender, reconnection to body - and the importance of breathing.
Like life, yoga is a journey, as you continually learn through its many layers. There is no final destination, just deeper understanding of its benefits.

Hervey Bay was home for me about 20 years ago and I returned in July, 2025. On frequent visits to Hervey Bay over recent years I was fortunate to discover Jess and Ocean Tree Yoga Studio. Now, as part of the studio’s teaching staff, I am incredibly honoured to bring my life experience and yoga passion to what she offers.
My simple wish is to share the incredible benefits yoga has given me.
